Rudchester Farm Outhouse

August 2025

On the South East corner of the Chicken Run (Coach House) is a new green door which opens into a 2-seater privy. Some of the supporting wood has rotted over the years, but the seats are in good condition. Under the seats is an opening approximately 50x30cm into the walled area behind it, which we have planed as a herb bed, covering the opening with a stone slab and some old slates.

When we cleaned it out, we found the lid to the larger seat, an old numberplate, 2 small glass bottles and lots of other rubbish.

This was found under rubbish in front of the seats. The first letters, SL, represent Clackmannanshire (1903–74). The last letter F was issued from 1 August 1967 to 31 July 1968. (Wikipedia article) We don't know what vehicle this was from.

2 small glass bottles with "N 5 41" on the bottom of the larger and "N 2 26" on the smaller. They could have been for medicine or smelling salts?
