Rudchester Malthouse

July 2020

We think the Malthouse was built as part of the other farm buildings in the 17th or 18th centuries. It's original use isn't known and it may well have had various uses over the years.

THere are two supporting buttresses on the East side and one on the West. It is not clear whether these were purely structural or had other functions in the past.

This aerial photograph, which we think is from the early 20th Century, you can see The Malthouse, similar to its current form, but with apparently different windows on its South wall.

The Malthouse was sold by Northumberland County Council in 2012 with the other farm buildings.
