A Smithy is shown East of Rudchester on OS maps from 1859 until 1951. A farm the size of Rudchester would have needed multiple horses until the 20th century, so it would have made sense to have a smithy on site. Its entrance was slightly North of the entrance to the courtyard - between the garages and the helmings. The maps appear to show a garden or possibly a yard for horses.
There is no visible evidence of this building today.
